The slippery steering wheel crumpled in his hands as if it were strands of wool. His headlights like a flaming arrow, pierced the wet darkness. The raging wind pounded with the ferocity of a wild beast. The heavy droplets swirled through the storm, gently blurring everything, as though the city had been painted on a wet canvas, melting down into watery greys and whites.

Through the torrents of water that hammered down on the roof of his car, He cursed the storm that swirled in both, his town and his mind. He forced down his foot pushing the acceleration pedal speeding to the core.

He suddenly leaned forward squinting through the windshield. His headlights framed a little furry lump shivering amidst the freezing storm,  in the middle of the road.

Although his instincts were to automatically hit the brake paddle his brain was too weary to think. Letting the slight guilt flush out he lied to his mind that he saw nothing and accelerated faster as his car gave a sudden jerk running over the furry puddle. Pulling over at a deserted parking lot, he sprung out of his car, ignoring the rain like a jet of a hydrant pouring like a waterfall. He ran like a bullet stumbling through the puddles, his head bent against the scorning wind and the hammering rain through the hospital corridors.

His dripping hands pushed open the ICU doors and as he set foot into the wam, silent room the rapid beeping stopped. The ECG of his dying son, now a straight line.

Above the fury of the raging storm and his frantic cries, A painful howl of a dying puppy echoed the frozen streets.
